A basketball organization founded in 1937. The original owner Fred Zollner, named the team the Zollner Pistons because he owned a large factory that made Pistons. The Zollner Pistons were National Basketball League Champions in 1944 and 1945. The team became the Fort Wayne Pistons in 1948, where they played in the Basketball Associations of America. The team played at North Side High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Zollner decided that he would move the playing arena because of small size so he moved the team from Fort Wayne to Detroit. The Detroit Pistons were to play in Olympia Stadium. In 1974 Zollner sold the team to Bill Davidson who moved the team to Pontiac in 1978, where they played in the Silverdome.
