SCHOOLS IN DETROIT:
The schools in Detroit have many problems. From The National Disgrace found that the school system is still paying utility bills for some schools that had been shut down. The National Pulse interviewed Sean Perrin a sixth grade teacher at J.E. Clark Preparatory Academy who told them, "DPS made some efforts to improve facilities last year. Still, there are problems: There are empty teaching slots, rats in classrooms, and the schools boiler requires several hours to fully heat, which means everyone has to wear coats indoors for the first couple hours." Its no surprise that teachers and kids do not want to go to school.

FUNDING:
One reason Detroit, Michigan's school system is disappointing, is that the funding aspect. The National Disgrace reported, Though the economic decline of Detroit is part of why its schools are in bad shape, 80 percent of education funding in all Michigan schools comes from the state. That's thanks to a 1994 law intended to reduce property taxes and equalize school funding statewide.
Perrin, from the National Pulse said "You can't do everything you wants with the kids because of the funding." These children are not receiving the best education they deserve, because of poor funding.
