Not only how the major city of Detroit is affected by the skewed differences between political parties and figures but how these political differences are viewed and affected within the entire state. Given the fact that Michigan is so culturally diverse you will see critical view points of these parties and impacts of the actions taken by the formal parties and leaders.

Most urban cities are under the authority of one party which makes sense considering the population of the community. It is typically the governors of these major cities that reign not only by providing order but by instilling fear into their community. Threatening their jobs, their houses, resources that we as individuals depend on in order to survive and maintain a healthy and efficient life style. It is because of this kind of power that the people really have no say in how they feel about certain issues regarding their community. As you read through the rest of this page please keep in mind that not all political leaders are power hungry vampires sucking the life out of their communities for resources they're actually trying to make a difference for the people. However, not everyone has the same views and that is why in The United States of America today we have one word that separates us from other countries, freedom.
First: The struggle within Detroit |
Second: Democrats and Republicans |
The city of Detroit is not only culturally diverse it is politically diverse. As we know a democracy consists of a candidacy based on the population as a whole. A republic consists of one supreme leader or councilor rather then a monarch. The real question is what party has dominated the city of Detroit?
Well, according to The Washington Post August 8th, 2016 by Emily Badger, " Detroit is a convenient place for Republicans to argue that Democratic ideas have failed even hard-core Democratic Voters." After reading this I thought about why some republicans are so eager to try and enhance the state. If there is anything about politics it's that debating and finding solutions to problems between any given party can be a challenge. Regardless of the idea Democratic or Republican they both have one common goal and that's to ensure and maintain a substantial community within their jurisdiction. The people of Detroit deserve a fresh start and have endured more hardships then any other city in the United States. The six candidates you see below have really made and impact on the city of Detroit and are doing their best to bring Detroit back to it's status of being one of the best cities in the United States.

Problems occur almost every single day and it's impossible to control. Not a single political figure or leader can establish a society and expect their to be any problems. However, for the city of Detroit there are a lot of problems job cuts, homelessness, and crime take place, not just for this city for every city. If their is one word that I can use to describe Detroit it's struggle. But I don't believe this stems from the general community. I believe the root of why Detroit has gone through so many hardships is because their isn't a common ground between the Democrats and Republicans.
The Detroit City Council has a variety of departments a formal committee, new business committee, public health & safety and so on. But the main department I would like to emphasis on is the Planning and Economic committee and the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation. The committee focuses primarily on working with the city in order to ensure the security and prosperity for the city as a whole. The Detroit Economic Growth Corporations mission is to make business success possible for the city allowing personal businesses to grow and develop throughout the city of Detroit. As well as school systems, safety, entertainment, and even culture. Organizations like these need to be maintained and lead accordingly in order for the people of Detroit to live and provide themselves bigger and better opportunities for years to come.

The top six political figures who have made an impact and have left their mark on
the city of Detroit.
Ann Clare Williams
This decorated scholar went to Wayne State University and graduated with a degree in elementary education and pursued to get her masters degree at the University of Michigan for guidance and counseling. |
L. Brooks Patterson
Big politician in the city of Detroit. His main priority is to transform Oakland County in Detroit, Michigan and make it one of the safest places to live. Went to the University of Detroit then perused his doctorate in law. |
Barbra Rose Collins
Barbra attended Wayne State University just as Mrs. Williams did. Known throughout Michigan through the public school system and even became a member of the House of Representatives for Michigan State. |
Mike Duggan
Mr. Duggan was one of the first white majors in the city of Detroit in 2013. He is also a local business man, prosecutor, and a formal democrat. |
Cornelia Groefsema Kenndy
Mrs. Kennedy grew up in the city of Detroit. Finished at the top of her class in law school. Then became a chief judge and a member of the U.S. court of appeals for the sixth circuit. She died at 90 years of age. |
Bill Jenkins
Mr. Jenkins is originally from Detroit but decided to move to Tennessee and be a politician. Jenkins perused his education in law, Jenkins later was later nominated governor of Tennessee in 1970. |
I chose these six candidates as representatives of the city both current and past only for one reason. It is because they all stem from one another and have tried to ensure the security of the city of Detroit, Michigan to it's entirety. Here are some major speeches and interviews with a few politicians that I believe have made an impact currently and within the past. These individuals have all contributed to the development of ensuring security for a wholesome community regardless of how the media portrays them they all have one collective goal for the city, to grow:
Mrs. Williams presents herself very honestly and gives us an idea of how men particularly influenced her while she was in the process of becoming a judge. She also talks about civility and how important it is for all the people to have fair trials. Mrs. Williams also talks about how being a lawyer and a judge requires a certain amount of professionalism while directing cases and trials. I think Mrs. Williams not only provides a tremendous amount of confidence but authority of representing the judicial system. Mrs. Williams says, "It wouldn't matter what race they where, wouldn't matter how much money they have, they would just get a fair trial." It is because of Mrs. Williams passion for the people, fight for equal opportunity, and civility that she had become the first African American Female Justice.
Here we have L. Brooks Patterson being interviewed at a conference in Oakland County, Detroit Michigan. The main topic is integrating counties in Detroit to establish a much safer and productive community. Just so you're all aware, L. Brooks is a republican and is viewed throughout the city of Detroit, Michigan for being a conservative racist regarding the majority of the population within the major community of Oakland County. L. Brooks makes a few bold statements regarding integrating the two major communities.
Coming from a liberals perspective I don't necessarily think that L. Brooks is trying to cause any fabrications or commotions while being in public office. In this interview we see Brooks project this enormous amount of sincerity regarding the people in the community of Oakland County, I believe he is just an ordinary man perusing his passion of bringing people together and not some blood sucking vulture that the media portrays him to be. I believe that the city of Detroit can take a lot from L. Brooks simply just by coming together as a whole collective group to diagnose specific problems and finding the root causes that are not only affecting the people of Detroit, Michigan but the state in it's entirety.

Now I know most of you watching this clip right now probably think that Mrs. Collins is out of her freaking mind. However, I do have to commend her for standing up for her personal beliefs. Racism is prominent here and now we see how L. Brooks Patterson is considered a racist for his lack of respect towards Mrs. Collins. I honestly believe that the real issue between the two candidates is communication.
This is really the big issue among all politicians within Detroit and the world. Everyone has to have an opinion on certain issues whether it's water, taxes, crime, we have to take all these things into consideration for the benefit of our own survival but for a community to function as well. The lack of respect L. Brooks projects towards Mrs. Collins is just ignorant and really shows immunity on the situation at hand. People will always have different opinions it's in our constitution. Although I will say this, true leadership is earned through hard work, dedication, and time. If we as country continue to treat people differently just based on the color of their skin or from their own personal opinion, "these civilized people they'll eat each other."

Take a look at Mike Duggans slogan on the podium. This is a good slogan however, I don't see him as a professional leader. He does have the crowds attention about Detroit and what he believes the cities true potential can be. But it's how he is communicated toward the crow using hand expressions to grasp their attention.
Duggan also follows up with fabricated stories and promises that don't really seem to go along with what he is trying to talk about. This is poor public speaking and poor leadership at it's finest. Honesty in in communication and in public speaking is crucial and isn't used in political debates or speeches. These are all tactics used to grasp the audiences attention and beliefs on certain topics regarding their community and potential themselves. Although, Mike Duggan is viewed as one of the biggest political influences in Detroit, he really does know how to put on a good show.

The Tension within Michigan
The image above is the current governor of Michigan, Richard Snyder being portrayed as the devil. I don't know why Americans portray republican politicians as satan or why they bring the religious element into politics. I guess it's just a typical stereotype that everyone has taken with them throughout the years. Richard Snyder being a republican plays a huge role in how a large democratic city like Detroit, views the Michigan as a whole. Now I don't find Mr. Snyder that repulsing even though I'm a blue collard, I think that Detroit needs this man as a their leader. Sure he may not have the entire city of Detroit in his favor but hes collectively is instilling and promoting change within the city. Although, I'm not a Detroiter, I don't fully understand why the majority of the republican party is viewed poorly among this Democratic state. The essential goal is to "Build a better Detroit", in the past six years Snyder has created over 500,000 private sector jobs. According to Detroit records the unemployment rate in Detroit has been the lowest it has ever been in the past fifteen years. As a unit Detroit is about the people, everyone is so uniquely diverse the majority of the people just want to live the american dream. Snyder has also provided health care among 600,000 Detroiters within the past fifteen years. It is because of relentless and power hunger political leaders not only Detroit but other cities and states are improving their standards and are finding new ways to promote growth and prosperity toward society. As long as people have one common goal with each other and that goal is positive I don't see why both of these parties can't put their differences aside and come together to form a plan to accomplish rebuilding a once fallen city. Detroit now is back on the drawing bored not only offering beneficial information about their history but opportunity for young and hungry entrepreneurs. Furthermore, I believe that with strong, independent, and hospitable leaders regardless of what kind of political party Detroit and cities all around the world can come together as one unit to rebuild was has been lost. Providing peace, justice, and security throughout a community to ensure productivity among society and peace for the people.
