History 1701-1900: This time period can be broken up into 3 important events. These events are French colonization 1701-1760, the Siege of Detroit and the beginning of Industrial Detroit from 1840-1900. All these events have helped shape Detroit to the city it is today.

Two of the most well known race riots in Detroit were the Detroit race riot of 1943 and the 12th Street riot of 1967. These riots were events that the whole nation was familiar with when they were over, and are still historical events that are remembered today.Education is a right to all Americans; Detroit is failing to offer that right to many students in multiple parts of the city. The Detroit Public School System(DPS) has 97 operating schools, 3,235 Teachers and 47,495 students. With continuous teacher strike-outs and schools closing, it is hard for the students in Detroit to build their future.
