Introduction
Detroit is the largest city in the Midwestern state of Michigan. Near Downtown, the neoclassical Detroit Institute of Arts is famed for the Detroit Industry Murals painted by Diego Rivera, and inspired by the city’s ties to the auto industry, giving it the nickname "Motor City." Detroit is also the birthplace of Motown Records, whose chart-topping history is on display at their original headquarters, Huntsville U.S.A.
Detroit was founded in July 24, 1701. In 1850 the population was about 850. During 1827-1950, the city grew in many ways, for example, job opportunities. Many people decided to come to Detroit to start manufacturing and auto industry. Detroit boasted one of the nations highest median family incomes because of well paying jobs connected to the auto industry. After 1950 the population started to until present day.
